Matador Engine: A new universal GSM hardware secure platform


1. What is Matador Engine?

Matador Engine is a GSM hardware interface designed to work with all mobiles phones currently
in the market, combined with a highly secure software protection system built in its hardware.

It is compatible with any PC running Windows operating system with a USB port. It can be used
as a stand alone "High Speed Universal Box" or as a security device to execute GSM service software
specially written for Matador Engine that can Unlock/Flash/Service a wide variety of phones.


2. Hardware design

Matador Engine is a hardware interface designed with the GSM phones in mind, so the RS232 communications
hardware was made using the best ICs currently available in the market and designed to fit the full range
of mobile phones using RS232 communications. The RS232 communications hardware is based on the newest
FT232R chip, allowing data transfer rates from 300 baud to 1 Megabaud (flash phones at 1Megabaud speed) and
adding another level of security using the new FTDIChip-ID feature.

The RS232 communications port can work as a standard Rx/Tx port (FBUS), or 1-wire Rx/Tx port (MBUS), it can
also provide +5v flashing Vpp voltage. All this options are set-up by software and easily reviewed by
indicator LEDs on the front panel of the box. Forget that old fashion switches that one never knows what
is the correct position.

As this interface is intended to be an Universal GSM interface, it has a second extra communications
port (XPORT), that can interface with phones not using RS232 communications, such as
Nokia (custom protocol), Sagem (JTAG interface + RS232), Siemens (special testpoint adapters), etc...

With its dual processor design it combines fast internal execution with secure key management. Matador Engine
will provide a secure execution platform for the critical parts of Windows programs, making unauthorized
copying and distribution of those programs extremely difficult. With its fast USB throughout and fast execution
of the main CPU, can integrate seamlessly into the main Windows program, giving the same level of experience
to the user as if there is no dongle.


3. Security features

The hardware is powered by Matador Engine OS, a specially designed OS that works in Real-Time which is main
task is to provide the security mechanisms for the Matador Engine applications and for the Windows applications.

Each Matador Engine has an unique serial number and a different set of encryption algorithms, so internal
communications inside the box and external communications between box and PC will always be different, hence
no security mechanism can be compromised by using a hardware or software emulator.

As its dual processor based, the main CPU cannot run without the second CPU, and viceversa, the second CPU
can only run with its paired main CPU. So compromising security in one section does not compromise the whole
device.

The Matador Engine OS and applications never execute in flash, they are dynamically loaded and unloaded by the
OS kernel, using runtime encryption/decryption algorithms.

The easiest way to emulate security dongles is via scanning of their communication. USB is probably the
easiest protocol to scan, either by software filter drivers or external HW analyzers. Matador Engine has
dynamic, device dependent stream cypher to protect against scanning and emulation.


4. Remote update of Matador Engine OS and Matador Engine applications

The Matador Engine OS can be easily updated remotely just by clicking the "Update" button on maintenance software,
so you always will have the up-to-date Matador Engine OS installed in your box, maximizing the hardware performance.

Matador Engine applications can be upgraded and installed inside the box using the maintenance software as well. So
you can see which applications are up-to-date and which applications must be updated/installed easily.

All applications written for Matador Engine are hardware compatible, so you can have one box with only 2 applications
installed that support 2 mobile phones brands, you can have another box with the same 2 applications and 3 new
different ones that support another 3 mobile phones brands, one box with just 1 application for one mobile phone
brand, etc.. The possibilities are unlimited! Just install the applications that fit your needs.


5. Benefits of having Matador Engine hardware

You will get a true Universal GSM hardware interface, that can be used as a stand alone true Universal Box, or as a
security device to execute GSM service software specially written for Matador Engine that can Unlock/Flash/Service
a wide variety of phones.

All projects powered by Matador Engine will be hardware compatible, so if you buy Matador Engine hardware and install
the applications to execute "Project 1", if in the future you want to install the applications to use "Project 2"
software, no need to get another Matador Engine hardware, you can easily update/install the applications using the
remote upgrader/installer for your box.

of cables to service a wide range of phones (125 cables set, 110 cable set, Nokia cable set, etc...) at a super-low
